A cafe that runs its own online shop.

iv coffee is a specialty cafe on Queen Street in Berry. I rebuilt its website so customers can buy beans and merch from their phone, and the owner can run the shop himself.

The problem

iv coffee already sold online through a Square store. The owner, Nick, wanted a site that matched the cafe and the community around it. In his words, the old sites were “simple and generic”.

What I built

A website that feels like the cafe, with a shop built into it. Most people visiting are on a phone, so every screen was designed for a phone first.

  • The iv coffee homepage on a phone, with the cafe counter, the address and the opening hours.

    The cafe comes first

Who they are, where they are and when they are open, on the first screen.

  • The iv coffee shop on a phone, showing a tee with size buttons and a hoodie marked out of stock.

A shop that works on a phone

Sizes, colours and sold-out items are clear before anything goes in the bag.

  • The iv coffee bag on a phone, with pickup, Berry delivery and Australia-wide shipping options and a postcode field.

    Pickup, delivery or post

Local delivery asks for a postcode first, so only Berry-area customers can choose it.

An app to run both venues

Alongside the website, I built Nick a private app for the day to day. He signs in, makes changes and presses publish. No developer and no waiting.

Add and edit products

Photos, prices, sizes, colours and stock for each one.

Update the le bar menu

Add, change or remove wines and snacks in the same app, so both venues run from one place.

See and ship orders

Every paid order in one list: what was bought, pickup or post, and where it is going. Mark it shipped with a tracking number.

Know the moment something sells

Every paid order sends a message straight to his phone with the order details.

Stop selling what has run out

Stock goes down by itself when an order is paid, and sold-out sizes cannot be added to the bag.

Orders backed up every week

A copy of every order is emailed off-site each Monday, so nothing depends on one system.

Found when people search

When I searched for coffee in Berry, ChatGPT recommended iv coffee first and Google listed it first in local results.

ChatGPT answering 'best coffee berry': I'd check out IV Coffee at 117 Queen St. It specialises in coffee rather than a big food menu, uses Paradox beans, and has a 4.8 rating from about 250 reviews.

In Nick’s words

  1. What made you decide to get a new site built?

“Wanted to elevate our site to match our brand and community more, our old sites were simple and generic. Henry created something with a lot more emotion.”

  2. What stood out about how we worked together?

“Communication was terrific, quick responses and prompt to implement the changes needed.”

  3. If a mate asked you about getting a site built, what would you tell them?

“I’d tell them to have a consult and see what Henry can do, very flexible options at an accessible price.”

  4. How would you compare the new sites to the old?

“New sites are more user friendly, have better SEO so more reach on Google and easier to edit and adapt”
